Fixed my ubuntu boot problem

Installed Feisty Fawn Xubuntu (and above) on a Toshiba 325CDS

It kept hanging at the initramfs prompt

Basically it apparently wasn't loading the ide-generic module
because at the prompt i was able to type

modprobe ide-generic
exit

after the modprobe you could then ls /dev/disk which has all the new UUID stuff i guess.
Anyway, after the "exit" the boot continued normally.

So after much fooling around and guessing and reading random stuff with similar errors....

finally figured out on my own that there is a file called /etc/initramfs-tools/modules where you can add modules to be loaded by the initramfs

so edited /etc/initramfs-tools/modules by

sudo vi /etc/initramfs-tools/modules

and added

ide-generic

to the end.

Then to make the init stuff use this file you have to use the update-initramfs command (this one is for my current kernel of 2.6.20-15-generic)

sudo update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.20-15-generic

which built a new file in the /boot directory

rebooted and it actually worked.

Took 3 days off after my 2 week trip to Seattle.

Got the following accomplished:

Oiled and greased the JD
Fixed the hood on the JD (broken mount)
Oiled and greased the tillers
Got horse poop and put on garden
Tilled the garden
Got an appt. to get the DR a new front tire and the fork seals replaced
Got a trailer load of wood mulch
Sawed up a lot of the cottonwood
Ate lunch with Fred B.

About 1 week until a new nephew.

Since I had the big cottonwood tree chopped down, I finally got around to replacing the sprocket on the old poulan.
Also put on a new chain.
It worked fine all day.

Was a little rainy today but got the JD425 all ready for mowing season.
It has fresh oil, hydro, fuel filter, grease, and sharpened blades.
M's tulips and some type of purple flowers are blooming near the house.
The ones out under the tree aren't blooming yet.
Nothing in the garden yet.

Sunday busy sunday

Was a busy sunday.

M drove the GMC and 16' flatbed trailer to go get some mulch. She kept it between the lines just fine. She let me drive it back home with the mulch.
M put some mulch on the garden where her paths will be
I dug up the septic tank cover (how exciting)
Fired up the JD 425 and pulled the fertilizer spreader around the yard. Need to get some parts and stuff so I can change the old, grease it up, fill up the hydrostat.
Took the DR for a ride. Started right up. Probably needs an oil change etc. Lubed the chain with my christmas present. The 15 yr old front tire has a couple big cracks in it. Probably need to get a new one sometime.
Found a young coon in the shed. Didn't have my rifle on me.
Still plenty more to do.
